Coochiemudlo Island

Nestled in the southern side of Moreton Bay (Redlands Coast), Coochiemudlo Island is the closest of bay islands to the mainland, yet fortunate to be one of the very few islands inundated by white sandy beaches. Only an easy forty minute drive from Brisbane, ten minute drive from Cleveland. With a enjoyable seven minute passenger ferry trip across from Victoria Point, be ready to enjoy one of our several walking tours around this remarkable little island. Coochiemudlo`s coastline encompasses 360 degree views of Moreton Bay, from the Glass House Mountains to the north, to Springbrook and the NSW Border Ranges to the south. Matthew Flinders, in 1799 arrived on the island, and was the first Englishman to take advantage of these views, to aid in navigation for further exploration within the bay and inland water ways.. Coochiemudlo's "Melaleuca Wetlands"  is located on the eastern side of our tiny island, also listed under Ramsar convention (wetlands of international importance), this section of coastline has great views of the second largest sand island in the world (North Stradbroke Island), amazingly diverse ecosystems, Flora and Fauna.
One of the island's little secrets, is our rare and ancient Mangrove systems. These systems are located on the western coastline, with six of the eight Mangroves species found in Moreton Bay, located right on our door step. This little island has been a haven for unique eco systems and wildlife , it's no wonder this island has earnt the reputation of a real hidden Gem.
